If there’s one topic circulating among photography enthusiasts at the moment, it’s last week’s Photokina event in Cologne.
If you weren’t lucky enough to attend then don’t worry, here’s some of our highlights.
This year 1251 exhibitors from 45 countries set up their stands for around 180,000 people. After spending 10 days assembling ours (which included our fantastic Nikon Key cube) we opened to the public who couldn’t wait to get their hands on the latest Nikon products. We loved demonstrating some of our new cameras such as the D7000, the D3100 and our COOLPIX range, and we also hosted a screen presentation of some movies that were shot using a Nikon camera.
As well as learning about Nikon’s heritage and latest innovations, visitors talked to us about their photography interests and techniques offering us some really great insight into what our customers want. We took 1400 pictures of our visitors and projected them onto the wall – check out some of our favourites which we uploaded to Flickr here.
The presentations by award winning photographers were all met with a welcome reception, and they were delighted to chat to visitors offering hints, tips and inspiration. Chase Jarvis gave his keynote speech about the D7000 and screened the new film he shot it on while Robert Bösch shared some of his adventures and experiences in outdoor photography.
Dave Black inspired the crowds with his talks on using speed lights for sports and Vincent Versace presented his thoughts on natural light in photography. You’ll see from Vincent’s talk here that his techniques contrast with Dave’s; both very different views but equally as innovative.
Big thanks to everyone who took the time to visit us at Photokina this year, we hope to see you all at the next one.
